Intel has released the Intel Performance Maximizer (IPM) auto-overclocking tool.

Available for free, the tool is designed to provide 'one-click' optimization of your 9th gen unlocked multiplier Intel processor. The tool makes it easy to dynamically custom-tune an unlocked Intel processor based upon its individual performance potential.

The app is compatible with Windows 10, 64-bit RS5 (Version 1809) or newer, and the list of supported CPUs is limited to Coffee Lake-S processors and the Intel Z390 chipset:

• Intel Core i5-9600KF Processor (9M Cache, up to 4.60 GHz)
• Intel Core i7-9700K Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.90 GHz)
• Intel Core i7-9700KF Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.90 GHz)
• Intel Core i9-9900K Processor (16M Cache, up to 5.00 GHz)
  
• Intel Core i9-9900KF Processor (16M Cache, up to 5.00 GHz)

Minimum requirements

• 8 GB RAM
• 16 GB free spaceon non-removable GPT drive
• Processor Core Overclocking must be enabled in BIOS
• All processor cores must be enabled
• Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (Intel HT Technology), if supported on the processor,must be enabled
• Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 mode must be enabled
• Boot mode must be UEFI
• Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technologymust be enabled
• Intel Watchdog Timer Driver (Intel WDT)must be enabled

Once installed, IPM automatically increases clock speeds in small steps, testing after each change to ensure stability. It repeats this process until there's a crash or error, at which point it drops back down to the previous clock or multiplier setting, tests for stability again, and then starts to tweak other factors such as voltage. The process repeats until the tool establishes a maximum safe overclock which may take up an hour or more.
