CDRinfo.com: Writing Quality Tests - C1 / C2 Error Measurements

General Interest Apr 7,2004 0

Checking your media’s quality has never been easier. The word for CDRinfo’s web application with which you can check your media’s quality. Many are the times we come up with bad quality recordings. Even if we have the best burner, sometimes it doesn’t reply to our expectations. Many blame the drive’s performance for its inability to produce qualitative recordings, but sometimes this is not the case.

Due to the fact that many different media brands swarm in the market, this makes it difficult for the drive manufacturers to achieve full compatibility with all of them. In order to make a burner support a particular media, there are a lot of scrutinizing and time-consuming tests to be done from the manufacturer in order to adjust the burner’s behavior to the particular media.

From the above we conclude to the consequent that each burner has different behavior and compatibility against each different media brand. For this very reason we test the writing quality of a burner with different media brands available in the market.

These tests are called C1 / C2 Error Measurements. In a few words C1 and C2 errors are data bits and bytes that are wrongly written on the CD. UMdoctor software is able to pinpoint these errors and we use it with for our tests too.

The more the C1 / C2 errors, the greater the likelihood for data to be altered is.

On the Media Test region of our site you will find a web application with which users can post their results from Umdoctor to our Media Tests section. This is currently accomplished via e-mail, but in the near future this will be done via a web interface.
