DVD Players And DVD Recorders Market to Reach 264.7 Million Units by 2012

Consumer Electronics Dec 4,2007 0

The world DVD players & DVD recorders market is projected to reach 264.7 million units by the year 2010, according to a recent report. The high demand is driven by the latest advancements in consumer home entertainment products, the growing popularity of the concept of home cinema, and the need to record high-definition (HD) content onto advanced HD DVD optical disc formats. With competition intensifying by the year, price reductions are expected to sharpen market penetration for these products in the world market.

As stated by the recent report published by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., world market for DVD players & DVD recorders is dominated by Europe, and Asia-Pacific with a combined 75.4% share estimated in the year 2007. Strong growth is expected stem from Asia-Pacific, with sales of both DVD players and recorders in the region expected to rise by 26.3 million units between the period 2007 to 2012. In Japan, sales of the same are projected to reach 23.1 million units by the year 2012. In the world DVD players market, Asia-Pacific is expected to record CAGR of 23.06% over the analysis period of 2003 to 2012, while United States, and Japan are expected to witness declining demand.

In regions where cable TV penetration is relatively low i.e. Europe, demand for DVD players and recorders is projected to grow in the upcoming years. Future demand for DVD players, which are essentially commoditized products, is expected to stem largely from developing markets, where household penetration of DVD continues to be small. China, over the last few years, has emerged into a major, lucrative market for DVD players. The country is forecast to drive growth in Asia-Pacific in the upcoming years. Growth in the premium priced DVD recorders market is expected to stem from developed countries, with Japan the world's most technology savvy country, driving gains in the world market. In addition to Japan, Western Europe is also expected to fuel growth in the DVD recorders markets, while Eastern Europe is expected to drive market opportunities in the DVD players market.

Turbo-charging global growth is the DVD recorders market, which is expected to witness exponential growth to the tune of 28.2% over the analysis period of 2003 through 2012. Japan ranks as the largest market for DVD recorders with an estimated 38.5% share in the year 2007. Strong growth is however expected to stem from Europe, which is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 30.7% over the aforementioned analysis period. DVD recorder sales in Japan are expected to rise by 11.7 million units between the period 2007 to 2012, while in Europe for the same period, sales are expected to rise by 135.8%.
