Facebook Dominates The Smartphone Apps Market
A report from digital media analytics company comScore shows that Facebook Messenger is currently the second most popular app in the U.S. Following the Facebook app, which remains the most popular app in smartphones (73.3%), the Messenger app beat out YouTube for the second place spot with the help of the 59.5 percent of iOS or Android smartphone owners who used Messenger at least once a month. Instagram came at number nine, Facebook-owned apps make up 20 percent of the list of the top ranking smartphone apps.
The YouTube app held a 59.3% and Google Search followed with a 52%.
comScore also reported that Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 44.2 percent OEM market share in the U.S. smartphone industry for July 2015. Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 51.4 percent platform market share.
Samsung ranked second with 27.3 percent market share, followed by LG with 8.7 percent (up 0.3 percentage points), Motorola with 4.9 percent and HTC with 3.5 percent.
Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in July with 51.4 percent market share, followed by Apple with 44.2 percent (up 1.1 percentage points from July), Microsoft with 2.9 percent, BlackBerry with 1.3 percent and Symbian with 0.1 percent.
