Firefox 18 Features IonMonkey Javascript Compiler

Firefox 18 Features IonMonkey Javascript Compiler

Enterprise & IT Jan 9,2013 0

Mozilla has relreased the latest Firefox web browser, which features a faster JavaScript compiler, IonMonkey. Mozilla claims that IonMonkey makes Web apps and games perform up to 25 percent faster.

In the Mac version, the latest Firefox also supports high-resolution Retina Display for Mac users on OS X 10.7 and up. In addition, the new browser adds preliminary support for WebRTC (for Web real-time communications), an in-development open-source API that adds browser-to-browser voice calls and video chat without requiring separate plug-ins.

Other improvements in Firefox 18 included an option that lets users disable insecure content found on HTTPS-secured sites. Mozilla also patched 28 security vulnerabilities, more than two-thirds of them marked "critical," and revoked digital certificates that were initially thought to be in the hands of cyber criminals.

Firefox for Android offers search suggestions as you type. When you start typing into the Awesome Bar, Firefox will ask you if you'd like to opt-in to search suggestions. Mozilla says that search suggestions are conducted over a secure connection to protect user data.

Firefox for Android also adds new phishing and malware features to protect users from malicious websites. Firefox for Android warns users when they encounter websites that may be used for malware or phishing to protect users from malicious websites.
