First-tier Makers August m/b shipments fall short of market expectations

PC components Sep 14,2004 0

First-tier motherboard makers Asustek Computer, Elitegroup Computer Systems, Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International shipped a combined total of 7-7.1 million motherboards in August.

The figures were slightly higher than the 6.66 million units recorded in July, but lower than the expected 7.3 million units, according to sources at the makers.

The sources claimed that the slow shipment growth indicated that the traditional peak season has been delayed. With demand expected to gain momentum in September, the top four markers expect to ship a total of 7.92 million motherboards this month, the sources noted.

Asustek is expected to lead with 3.6 million motherboard shipments in September, followed by ECS with 1.67 million units, Gigabyte with 1.40 million units and MSI with 1.25 million units, according to preliminary estimates by sources at the four makers.
