Fusion-io Delivers ioScale Flash Cards For Smaller Companies

Fusion-io Delivers ioScale Flash Cards For Smaller Companies

PC components Jan 16,2013 0

In advance of the Open Compute Summit today, Fusion-io announced its newest product line, Fusion ioScale. The product is based on the same design that Fusion-io makes for major Web companies but it is aimed at smaller companies. Fusion-io positions its flash-based cards, which plug right into the PCI Express slots of servers.

ioScale is now available for hyperscale and cloud companies in minimum order quantities of one hundred units. Each ioScale provides up to 3.2 terabytes of Fusion ioMemory capacity that is performance tuned for the needs of webscale environments. Prices are starting at $3.89 USD per gigabyte, but they goe down with volume.

Fusion ioScale offers up to 3.2 TB of capacity on a single half length PCIe slot, with a single controller. This enables a small form factor server to scale to 12.8 TB or more.

Hyperscale servers supporting UEFI can boot from Fusion ioScale, further eliminating the need for RAID controllers or disk infrastructure in spartan webscale servers with limited space

Self-Healing, Wear Management, and Predictive Monitoring capabilities of Fusion ioMemory also maintain data reliability.

Fusion ioScale is also compatible with the Fusion ioMemory software development kit (SDK) to leverage application programming interfaces (APIs) like Atomic Writes and directFS permitting applications to run natively on flash.

Fusion ioScale will be showcased at the Open Compute Summit in Santa Clara, California on January 16 and 17, 2013, where it will be featured in Facebook servers.
