Google Glass Has A $80 Build Cost
Google Glass, which is publically available for a whopping $1500, costs less than $100 in bill of materials, according to a teardown analysis.
Teardown.com took the Glass device apart and estimated a total bill of materials of $80.
Specifically, the device's TI OMAP 4430 CPU sees to be the costliest item on the list of internal parts of Glass, at $13.96. Connectivity items (wireless sensors, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios) combined accounted for $10.79, while the 5 MP camera was valued in at $5.66. The touchscreen display only costs $3, according to the analysis.
A Google Glass teardown from last year revealed that the bill of materials for the device was at $208.
Responding to Teardown.com?s cost estimations, Google said it was wrong, as the cost of the hardware is not the only factor that should also be taken into account in order to valuate the Glass.
