GoVideo to Integrate the AMD Alchemy Au1200 Processor in Next Generation of Portable Video Players
Au1200 processor offers ability to store, manage and play fresh multimedia content on the go.
GoVideo, a consumer electronics pioneer, announced today that it is collaborating with AMD to integrate the AMD Alchemy Au1200 processor in its next line of portable video players (PVP). By selecting the low-power, high-performance Au1200 processor, GoVideo is positioning itself to be a leader in the burgeoning personal media player market by offering a mobile device that provides living-room quality entertainment for consumers on the go.
The Au1200 processor has been optimized for portable video players and enables a new generation of conveniences and features, including scalable DVD-quality displays, effortless video content transfers directly from digital video recorders, and long-lasting battery life so consumers can stay mobile longer. GoVideo will be demonstrating the capabilities of its new PVP at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (Booth #14007 in the Las Vegas Convention Centers Central Hall).
AMD offers one of the most compelling PVP solutions, providing the flexibility to create a very powerful, stable portable platform, said Ed Brachocki, GoVideos chief executive officer. Partnering with AMD gives us the ability to play the widest variety of todays premium video and audio content on our new PVP, including content stored on digital video recorders and downloaded through broadband Internet services.
The AMD Alchemy Au1200 processor will help enable GoVideo to deliver a PVP that provides consumers a simplified user experience and enhanced entertainment value. The Au1200 processor offers PVPs the ability to connect directly to digital video recorders (DVR) and transfer video content without the need to transcode the file through a personal computer, thus greatly reducing the time it takes to download and playback fresh video entertainment on a portable device. Once content is on the PVP, the Au1200 processor provides a best-in-class DVD-quality display that can be scaled directly to larger screens without compromising image quality. The Au1200 processor is designed to support industry-standard media formats, including MPEG2, MPEG4, WMV9, H.263 and DivX.
The combination of AMDs embedded processing expertise and GoVideos consumer electronics expertise promises to deliver a portable video player that exceeds expectations for video quality, sound quality and ease of use, said Iain Morris, senior vice president, AMD Personal Connectivity Solutions Group. High-quality video entertainment in a portable form factor could prove to be the next must-have consumer technology, and we look forward to working with GoVideo to help make it happen.
GoVideo PVPs based on the AMD Alchemy Au1200 processor are scheduled for availability in the second quarter of 2005. GoVideo will announce more details on the products pricing, performance and features prior to its availability.
