HTC To Bring Android L To Its Phones

HTC To Bring Android L To Its Phones

Smartphones Jun 26,2014 0

HTC has promised that two models of its flagship One series will receive updates to the latest version of Google's Android operating system, currently nicknamed "Android L," soon after the final release is made public. "We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible and will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly by other select HTC devices," the Taoyuan-based company said.

Google released a developer preview of Android L on Wednesday in the United States and indicated a consumer release would come in the fall.

HTC said in its Wednesday blog post that the company is excited about the new features in Android L release, which Google said will be faster, more secure and more battery-efficient.

"While Google has announced some high level features, they have not yet provided the official software to OEMs or chipset manufacturers to begin work on release software," HTC added.

"The software update timeline will begin once we receive the final software from Google and device updates will vary based on device, region, and carrier," HTC said.

Google's Android L Developer Preview release, will allow developers to explore many of the new features and capabilities of the next version of the Android mobile platform, including a new design language that allows apps to fit different screen sizes across multiple devices, support for 64-bit architecture, new lock screen notifications, advanced camera capabilities and new tools for game developers.
