Intel to Showcase New Tablets, 2-in-1 Devices and Notebooks At CES

Intel will hav eon display Intel-based notebooks, 2-in-1 devices and tablets, from its partners at CES 2014. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich will kick off CES 2014 with a keynote address on Jan. 6, 2014, 6:30 p.m. He will will provide a technology briefing on Intel's vision for improving interaction with computing across 2 in 1s, tablets, all-in-ones and more.

The company will also also host chats with Intel executives discussing conflict-free technology, wearable devices, the Internet of Things and connected cars.

Intel has already released its Bay Trail-T platform for Windows 8.1 and will release a version supporting Android in the near future. The CPU maker will launch its entry-level Bay Trail platform for Android in the first quarter of 2014, designed to help its partners offer US$99 Android-powered tablets.

Intel is also trying to cover consumers' needs with the release of tablets available in a wide range of prices. The company plans to release 7-inch Android tablets available at US$99-129, 7- to 8-inch models for US$149-199, 8- to 10-inch models for US$199-249 as well as bigger 8-inch and 10-inch tablets, based on the Bay Trail-T or the upcoming Cherry Trail processors.

As for the 2-in-1 devices, Intel plans to price products using the Bay Trail-T or the next-generation Cherry Trail platform, at around US$288-499, adopting a 10- or 11-inch panels.

For 2-in-1 devices priced at US$599 and above, Intel plans to push its Bay Trail-M and Haswell-Y platforms and In the second half of 2014, the Broadwell-Y will become the main platform of the segment with screen sizes also increasing to above 11.6-inch.

Intel also made reference designs with three different pricing for Windows 8.1 and Bay Trail-T-based products: US$399, US$499 and US$599. The US$399 solution will have a plastic chassis, a 1.8GHz processor, 2GB DDR3 memory and 32GB storage, Digitimes.com reported citing sources in Taiwan.

Intel will also release its 22nm Merrifield platform in the first quarter of 2014 and 22nm Moorefield platform at the end of the third quarter 2014, targeting smartphone products.
