Intel Xeon E5 Processor Family Expands New Processors

Intel Xeon E5 Processor Family Expands New Processors

PC components Jan 9,2014 0

Today Intel introduced the Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 v2 product family (previously codenamed Ivy Bridge-EN) to compliment the E5-2600 v2 product family launched in September with lower core counts, lower frequency and lower TDP options. The new Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 v2 product family is based on 22nm manufacturing process and includes 12 different models. It is designed to offer performance and features to address small and medium business, enterprise storage and entry to mid-range communications markets.

Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 v2 product family includes 12 different models featuring up to 10 cores that support two-socket server, storage and communication systems. The E5-2400 v2 product family compliments the E5-2600 v2 product family by extending the low voltage offering and offering configurations specifically designed for communication and storage.

With the addition of the E5-2400 v2 product family, the E5 product line will now have more than 30 different processors for 1S and 2S configurations. For example, the E5-2400 v2 product family brings down the TDP to 50W. These lower TDP processors can be integrated into very dense server racks and blades, and can help to drive up compute density.

The Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 v2 product family includes storage extensions such as Asynchronous DRAM Refresh and x16 Non-transparent bridging that help to enhance data protection and replication which is valuable for storage usages.

Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 v2 product family is a socket compatible replacement for the Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 product family and offers up to 23 percent more performance as compared to the previous generation, according to Intel. The E5-2400 v2 supports security features, such as the hardware based entropy source Intel Secure Key, and features to enhance virtualization performance, such as Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller virtualization (APICv).
