Intel Yonah Performance Preview

Intel Yonah Performance Preview

PC components Nov 30,2005 0

An exclusive preview of the forthcoming Yonah dual-core CPU for notebooks is available. Intel's Yonah chip is the successor to the current Pentium M (Dothan) and the predecessor to next year's Conroe, Merom and Woodcrest cores. As a mobile processor Yonah will bring dual core to thin and light notebooks.

The Yonah socket is a 479-pin interface, although the pin-out has been changed does not physically fit into any current Pentium M motherboards. The CPU is expected to be available in January 2006.

The Anandtech.com website has posted an exclusive preview of the Yonah CPU. The website says that chip is performs equally to an Athlon 64 X2 running at 2GHz. The important distinction, however, is that Intel is able to achieve that level of performance, without an on-die memory controller, and with lower power consumption.

It also says that Yonah will be impressive on notebooks, especially for multitaskers. As a desktop contenter, howevwr, it falls behind the Athlon 64 X2 in terms of video encoding and gaming performance.

Take a look at Anandtech's preview here.
