LG Launches First Terrestrial DMB-Enabled PDA
South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. on Sunday claims the world's first personal data assistant (PDA) that can receive and display broadcasts by terrestrial TV service providers while on the move.
The new PDA, PM80, is equipped with a new 3.5-inch quarter video graphics array (QVGA)-class LCD monitor and large-capacity battery that allows users to watch broadcasts for two-and-a-half hours, LG spoksmen said.
The PDA also features a high-performance antenna that allows viewers to receive all terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) services at speeds of up to 100 km/h, they said.
According to the officials, the new wide-frequency antenna will also be able to receive services by future service providers that are being tested at frequencies between 180 MHz and 186 MHz, in addition to the services carried by frequencies already in use.
Three Korean TV broadcasters, KBS, MBC and SBS, are currently providing trial services for the terrestrial DMB service, and three others, including the 24-hour news channel YTN, are expected to begin services next month.
