Matsushita Electric (Panasonic) Introduces New SD Audio Player

Matsushita Electric (Panasonic) Introduces New SD Audio Player

Optical Storage Sep 20,2001 0

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., best known for its Panasonic brand of consumer electronic and digital communications products, today announced that it will introduce the Panasonic SV-SD80, a new wearable SD audio player with AAC (Advanced Audio Coding), and MP3- and WMA (Windows Media Audio)-encoded music playback capabilities. The SV-SD80 will be launched in the Japanese market on November 10, 2001 at an open price, and will be on display at the Panasonic booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2001, to be held from October 2 to 6 at the Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center) in Chiba, east of Tokyo.

With the growing popularity of easy downloading and recording of music with PCs, the demand is increasing for high fidelity music players that are both compact and portable. The Panasonic SV-SD80 SD audio player is the industry's smallest*1 and lightest*1 portable music player of its kind, just 42.2 (W) x 41.6 (H) x 15.8 (D) mm (cabinet dimensions) and 38 grams with the rechargeable battery. This size reduction was achieved by taking advantage of Panasonic's know-how in system LSI technology, high-density packaging, and nickel-hydrogen battery development. Whether worn around the neck with the included neck strap or attached to a pocket or belt, the SV-SD80 is small and light enough to fit any listening style.

The Panasonic SV-SD80 uses less power too, consuming only one-fifth that of previous models. This enables the new player to offer up to 50 hours of continuous playback when using a AAA alkaline battery with the rechargeable cell. Recharging the player is easier too using the included recharging stand.

Panasonic's new SV-SD80 also offers a wide range of music entertainment with its built-in support for AAC and MP3- and WMA-encoded music. Using the new Panasonic SD audio PC recording kit (to be sold separately), consisting of "SD-Jukebox V2.3" software*2 and a USB reader/writer, up to 64 minutes of music can be recorded in High Quality mode or 129 minutes in Extended Play mode onto a 64 MB SD memory card (sold separately).

Fashionable mobility for all who want compactness and high fidelity in one unit, Panasonic's new SV-SD80 SD audio player strikes a new chord in portable digital music players.
