Micron Announces Availability of Two New Smaller VGA CMOS Image Sensors Targeting Mobile Market
Micron's DigitalClarity(TM) VGA Sensors Deliver Superior Image Quality at 1/6-inch Form Factor
Micron Technology, Inc. (NYSE:MU), today announced availability of the company's new MT9V012 low power stand alone sensor and MT9V112 SOC VGA sensor which are being delivered to handset manufacturers throughout Asia, Europe and the US. The sensors demonstrate Micron's ability to shrink the form factor of image sensors while maintaining leadership in image quality and low cost supplier position. The sensors are designed for the low cost and small size camera modules suitable for low and mid-tier mobile handset models, as well as dual-mode cameras, high end and 3G Smartphone models.
"Micron's commitment to quality is apparent in our new 1/6-inch VGA sensors' capability to capture crisp, sharp images even under poor lighting conditions," commented Micron's Director of Marketing, Farhad Rostamian. "Micron is committed to offering our customers quality products in a variety that will meet their every need. When added to Micron's existing portfolio of CMOS image sensors serving the mobile, DSC and emerging markets, these two VGA sensors further strengthen our leadership position in the imaging industry. We stand behind all of our products as the best-in-class, achieving superior performance levels, and we're committed to delivering sensors that will provide not just convenience, quality, and economy, but also an overall superior user experience."
The MT9V112 SOC sensor measures just 4mm diagonally. It is a complete camera on a chip with a data rate of 13.5 megapixels per second, and a master clock of 27 MHz. It requires only a power supply, lens, and clock source for basic operation. Its on-chip capabilities include an advanced image flow processor which performs: auto exposure, white balance, horizontal blanking, vertical blanking, color recovery and correction, sharpening, programmable gamma correction, on the fly defect identification and correction, zoom, windowing, and numerous other automatic functions. All functions are programmable through a two-wire serial interface. The MT9V112 is targeted primarily at cell phones, but is also appropriate for dual-mode camera applications, PDAs, toys and other battery-powered products.
Micron's MT9V012 is a stand alone 1/6-inch image sensor also offering advanced integrated technology. The sensor operates at ultra-low power for VGA resolution to capture high-quality progressive-scan video, limiting the drain on battery-powered cell phones.
