Microsoft Files Patent For Modular Desktop Devices
Microsoft recently filed with the USPTO for a PC design that appears to combine a stackable, modular approach to what looks a like an all-in-one desktop system.
The patent filing focuses on the ability to easily change out modular subsystem components, which snap together magnetically for end user customization. Things like storage, networking, processing and graphics options could conceivably be upgraded or expanded upon easily with little to no end user knowledge or experience with new technologies or PC component upgrades.
It is not clear whether Microsoft will productize a system based on the technology or what it would be officially branded.
