Mitsubishi Doubles OLED panel's Life Span
Mitsubishi Chemical has developed an organic light-emitting diode panel with a twice the life of conventional OLED panels. The new OLED module, which can be used in OLED lighting applications for offices, households and medical facilities, has a life span of 30,000 hours.
Mitsubishi Chemical started selling OLED lighting modules made with a "wet coating process" for the light-emitting layer last March. jointly developed with Pioneer, the modules had a life span of 15,000 hours.
The Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings unit changed the composition of the panel's materials and essentially prolonged its life.
The module's size is 300mm by 420mm but can be further customized upon request, Mitsubishi says. It emits light with a color temperature of about 3,000 K, which means the light appears similar to that from an incandescent or fluorescent bulb.
The new product will be manufactured by Pioneer OLED Lighting Devices, a Pioneer subsidiary, and sold by MC Pioneer OLED Lighting, a joint marketing venture of Mitsubishi Chemical and Pioneer.
