The Makalu Max can be bought directly from MOUNTAIN's official website at a reduced price of 69.99 Euros vs 89,99 Euros of the normal price. The retail package has a great design and we really liked the design and effort that MOUNTAIN makes to make their product stand out from competition. The box opens and closes via magnets at the front.

Opening the box unveils its contents. Everything is well packaged and protected from transportation, inside plastic foam. At the top, you will find all included accessories and cables.

Included Accessories

  • Braided USB Type-C to Type-A Lifeline cable with 2m length
  • RF Receiver
  • 2 Sets of Side Grips
  • 3 Weight Discs
  • Sticker set

The Makalu Max is both a wired and a wireless mouse. To use it as wireless, you need to use the included USB receiver and also include a bypass adapter with TypeC at the end (to connect the included braided USB cable). Note that the mouse is changed via the included or any Type-C USB cable.

The Makalu Max is a middle-sized mouse with 8 programmable buttons and an LED strip at the top. All buttons are placed on the left side. The product dimensions are 127×70.2×42.2mm (LxWxH) and weights ~110g with standard Side Grips and without any weight discs. For comparison, the Makalu 67 is around 64gr making it much lighter.

The Makalu Max has onboard memory and supports up to 5 profiles, the build material is ABS with only black color and includes two micro switches (L+R) from Kailh GM 8.0 that are supposed to be the most durable in Kailh’s GM lineup. The Kailh GM 8.0 micro switches provide crispy clicks and a snappy response to give precise feedback when gaming and are becoming one of the industry standard switches to use.

At the top, you will find the rotating wheel, 4 LEDs, and two more buttons to increase/decrease the DPI sensitivity of the included sensor.

The right side is clean of buttons.

At the bottom, you will find a Wired/Wireless switch (red is wired, blue is wireless) and at the center a cycle gap. There are also two white-dyed pure PTFE (Teflon) feet with rounded edges and you need to remove a very thin protective layer to get perfect glide.

Both side panels of the mouse can be removed (it's very easy via magnets) and MOUNTAIN has included two more size panels that can increase the mass of the mouse.

After installing both side panels...We can see an entirely different mouse. Much bigger and similar to the Logitech MX Master series. Of course, users can install one of them if they wish.

The included battery is estimated at around 1000 mAh and hopefully, you will get around 11 hours of use, depending on use and if are using the onboard LED lighting effect or not.

MOUNTAIN also included another surprise with this mouse, three removable circle weights that can add more weight to your mouse (10.6g, 8.4g, and 6.6g,)

Adding/removing the weight is very easy.
