NEC And Nippon Electric Glass Showcase "Invisible Glass" At CEATEC

Consumer Electronics Oct 1,2013 0

Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (NEG) is showcasing the Invisible Glass at CEATEC - a transparent glass panel that can not be visually recognized due to its special anti-reflection coatings formed on both sides of extremely Ultra Thin Glass. The anti-reflecting coatings have been designed to especially reduce visible light reflection to the human eye.

The thickness of anti-reflecting coatings is precisely controlled at the nanometer order to dramatically reduce visible light reflection to the human eye. The minimum luminous reflectance of Invisible Glass is 0.08%, far below that of bare glass (approx. 4%).

Though an ordinary anti-reflecting coating has 5 to 8 layers, the coatings formed on both sides of the invisible glass total 30 or more layers. The thicknesses of the layers of anti-reflecting coatings are precisely controlled at the nanometer level.

NGA claims that the performance of Invisible Glass far exceeds that of the conventional low-reflection glass and acrylic sheets, which have been often used for showcases at luxury jewelry shops and other places.

NEC plans to apply the Invisible Glass to more concept devices.
