New AQUOS BD + VHS Player-burner From Sharp
If you want to write your old VHS tapes directly to a Blu-ray disc, here's the solution: the BD-HDV22 "AQUOS Blu-ray" model from Sharp.
The BD-HDV22 features a Blu-Ray player-burner, 250GB of HDD and a VHS tape player recorder, while with the world's fastest from the standby power use (0.8 seconds), you can also record and play back your hard disk (from a startup mode).
An alternative model (without the VHS player-recorder) is the BD-HD22 model which has the same specifications with the BD-HDV22 one.
Both devices come with a 250GB hard disk installed and ground/analogue tuners. They are able to record broadcastings at MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, at 12Mbps, 8Mbps and 4.8Mbps. Japanese "Dubbing 10" function as well as recording on BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW and DVD-R DL media is also included in the specifications of the devices. Note that broadcasted video cannot be directly recorded on optical disc. The recorders output include HD video through HDMI (1080/24p), Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio (bit-stream). The devices will be released in Japan in October (BD) and November (with VHS). Estimated retail prices are 120,000 Yen ($1160, BD-HD22) and 160,000 Yen ($1544, BD-HDV22). Specifications
