New LG Luxurious Urbane Smartwatch To Appear at IFA
LG Electronics said Monday it will showcase an upgraded edition of the LG Watch Urbane, its flagship smartwatch, at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) held in Berlin from Sept. 4. The LG Watch Urbane Luxe will boast a gold body and crocodile-skin strap. The price tag on the device is US$1,200, and will be sold on a limited basis with only 500 units available through REEDS Jewelers, a U.S.-based retailer.
The smartwatch will be equipped with a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and run on the Android Wear platform. It comes with a 1.3-inch plastic organic light-emitting diode (P-OLED) display and a 410mAh battery.
Samsung Electronics is also expected to introduce its first round-face smartwatch at this year's IFA.
In the meantime, Sony has also created a fashion-conscious smartwatch that features a traditional, analog-based face and packs the electronics into the wristband.
The watch, dubbed Wena, comes from a partnership with Japanese manufacturer Citizen Watch Co.
For now, the smartwatch is set to be available only in Japan, and users have to own an Apple iPhone. It doesn’t work with Sony’s own Xperia smartphones.
Working with Japanese manufacturer Citizen Watch Co., the Sony engineers created what looks from the top like a normal wristwatch. But it can give email alerts and monitor the wearer’s health like other smartwatches, and it also has a payment function embedded in the wristband.
