New Manufacturer For Nvidia
Sources from the graphic market said that NVIDIA has given a small proportion of its GPU orders to Chartered Semiconductor in Singapore.
Although TSMC is still the main manufacturer of the majority of the NVIDIA products, the GeForce 7100GS is the first model manufactured by Chartered Semiconductor, according to the hkepc.com web-site.
TSMC is the main manufacturer for NVIDIA GPU products, while UMC is mainly manufacturing GoForce products for the mobile platform. NVIDIA plans to give a proportion of GPU manufacturing to UMC and Chartered Semiconductor, to gain its bargaining power from TSMC and stabilize its supply.
GeForce 7100GS, which launched on 31st August 2006 has two versions A2 and B2. The A2 version, model name GF-7100GS-N-A2 is manufactured by TSMC in Fab12 and Fab14 with 110nm process. While the B2 version, model name GF 7100GS-N-B2 is manufactured by Chartered Semiconductor in Fab6 and Fab7 also with 110nm process.
Chartered Semiconductor is also manufacturing AMD processors, and it is expected to manufacture ATI products as well after the acquisition.
