New Serial ATA interface capable of a 1.5 Gbps transfer rate!

General Interest Apr 27,2000 0

"..APT Technologies today unveiled the first full-speed demonstration of the new Serial ATA interface, featuring a 1.5 Gbps transfer rate. Serial ATA Working Group promoter companies APT Technologies Inc., Dell Computer Corporation, IBM Corporation, Intel Corporation, Maxtor Corporation, Quantum Corporation and Seagate Technology, announced that each company is focusing development on products that support the new Serial ATA storage interface specification.

The demonstration was the combined effort of APT Technologies, Inc. and Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation, and featured APT's Serial ATA Link and Transport layers coupled with Vitesse's 1.5 Gbs CMOS transceiver.

The interface will be used to connect storage devices, such as hard disks and CD-ROMs, to the motherboard and is a replacement for today's Parallel ATA physical interface. The Working Group expects to complete the Serial ATA specification by the end of this year. More information about the Serial ATA Working Group, and how to become a contributor and/or an adopter, is available at www.serialata.org ..." NULL
