Toshiba announced the D-R1 multiple DVD recorder, capable of DVD-R/-RW and DVD-RAM writing. The device will be available in the Japanese market by November 1st, at an estimated price of 70,000 Yen (540 Euros). Specifications:

- Recording media: DVD-RAM (single sided 4.7GB/ dual sided 9.4GB), DVD-R (single sided 4.7GB DVD-R for General), DVD-RW (single sided 4.7GB Ver.1.1)
- Reading media: DVD- RAM (single sided 4.7GB/ dual sided 9.4GB), DVD-R (single sided 4.7GB DVD-R for General), DVD-RW (single sided 4.7GB Ver.1.1), DVD-Video, video CD, audioCD, CD-R/CD-RW (CD-DA format)
- Recording modes: SP, LP, Just and manual
- Sound recording: Dolby digital (M1 mode: Transfer rate 192kbps, 2ch/M2 mode: Transfer rate 384kbps and 2ch), linear PCM (48kHz/16bit and 2ch) - Sampling Video: 10bit/54MHz
