Nikon Says Good-bye to Traditional Film Cameras

Nikon Says Good-bye to Traditional Film Cameras

Cameras Jan 13,2006 0

Japan's Nikon Corp. plans to stop making most of its film cameras and focus on digital photographic equipment. The company will stop making lenses for its large-format cameras and film-camera bodies, interchangeable manual focus lenses and numerous related items, the BBC reported Thursday.

However, Nikon will keep making its flagship F6 and the FM10 film camera for professional photographers. Nikon will sell all of the products until supplies run out. The company will offer support for the discontinued products for 10 years after they are sold.

Sales of digital cameras have outstripped sales of film cameras, leading other camera makers and sellers to adjust their strategies as well. In early 2004, Kodak said it would stop selling film cameras in North America and Europe.
