NTT DOCOMO Unveils 20 New Handsets
NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today 20 new handsets for launch on or after May 21, including 17 models in the four main series of FOMA 3G handsets - docomo STYLE series, docomo PRIME series, docomo SMART series and docomo PRO series - plus three docomo Smartphone models.
The new models and their planned launches are as follows:
Along with the new handset lineup, DOCOMO plans to introduce many new or updated services and features, including high-definition video recording, Wi-Fi access-point capability, designer-collaborated styling and a new healthcare support service.
- i Bodymo mobile health-support service (launches May 21)
o Turns mobile phone into a handy tool for monitoring daily physical activity and food intake, based on which the service provides health advice and tips.
o Records daily pedometer counts, jogging/walking course distances/times, etc.
o Accelerometer allows user to test body reflex, balance, etc.
o Presents calorie intake/burn in graphs and advises about diet and nutrition based on dietary data entered by user.
o Costs just 157.5 yen monthly (excl. packet charges).
- Six designer-collaborated models
o Users can match their handset to favorite fashions, interior designs, etc.
o The six models are: EMILIO PUCCI, a luxury brand known for its geometric prints; "kate spade" and "marimekko," which are popular for their vivid pop colors and textures; Studio Conran, established by noted furniture designer Sir Terence Conran; Francfranc, a Japanese home furnishing brand; and "amadana," a home-electronics designer brand.
- Full HD and HD video shooting
o One model (N-04B) shoots HD video and two models (F-06B and SH-07B) shoot Full HD video.
- Wi-Fi access-point capability
o Three models (F-06B, N-04B and N-08B) come with Wi-Fi access-point capability to allow up to four Wi-Fi-enabled notebook PCs or handheld gaming consoles to connect to the Internet or to each other via the phone.
