PlayStation Vita First Firmware Update Adds Maps And Video Shooting

Sony will release on Wednesday the first firmware update for the PlayStation Vita in Japan. The new Firmware (v1.60) will introduce a map app, which will display satellite imagery or maps and photos of the location of the user and also provide driving or walking directions. Users will be also able to send "group messages to their friends related to points of interest flagged on the maps.

The firmware also adds video recording capability to the PSVITA.

Sony will also enable support for Mac with Vita, having previously only supported Windows. It?ll release a OSX version of Content Management Assistant for PlayStation, allowing PSVITA owners to transfer content between Macs and Vita.

Vita launches in the United States on February 22. Walmart has already begun selling the launch games for PSVITA includeing Modnation Racers: Road Trip, before the system it's played on will hit stores.

The new Firmware will also reflect the name change of Sony Network Entertainment on your account than a PlayStation Network account.
