RIM Sued by NXP Over Patents
Research in Motion has been sued by NXP Semiconductor
NV for allegedly infringing six patents by selling
products such as the BlackBerry Torch, Curve and Bold.
NXP claims that BlackBerry Torch, Playbook, Curve and
Bold are using the patented inventions without
permission. Other patents are related cover computer bus
systems, mobile phones with GPS receivers, circuit
manufacturing, the polishing of the surface of wafers,
and patterning of layers on the wafer.
NXP filed the complaint yesterday in U.S. federal court in Orlando, Florida. The Dutch chipmaker seeks cash compensation and a court order to block further use of its inventions.
