Samsung Patent Shows Smartphone That Bends Like A Wallet
Samsung Display has registered for a patent on technology to develop bendable displays in the United States, implying a possible launch of foldable smartphones in the future. The company filed a patent application for the technology to manufacture flexible displays with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) late last month.
The technology would allow the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays to be folded and bent inwards.
Both Samsung and Samsung Display have so far registered many related patents with the USPTO.
Bloomberg had reported back in June that Samsung was hard at work on a foldable, bendable OLED display that could be used in smartphones, and now that surreal tech is one step closer to reality.
Industry insiders in Seoul had guessed back in June that Samsung could release a phone with a bendable display as early as February of 2017, though that seems unlikely now.
