Samsung, Yamaha And Philips adopt Gracenote CDDB music recognition service

Samsung, Yamaha And Philips adopt Gracenote CDDB music recognition service

General Interest Sep 2,2003 0

Gracenote, the worldwide leader in information services for digital music and media, announced that International IFA exhibitors, including Samsung, Philips and Yamaha will use Gracenote CDDB in their music-playing devices. The Gracenote CDDB music recognition service enables listeners to see artist, album and track name listings, instead of the customary "disk and track number," as well as providing simple, intuitive ways for users to categorize and access their music. Recognized as the global industry standard, Gracenote CDDB is used by over 30 million users in over 195 countries each month in consumer electronics devices, software media players and digital music encoders.

Several devices being shown at IFA highlight the versatility of Gracenote's technology: Samsung is using Gracenote to identify CDs and label digital music files in a PC-based software application that ships with all Samsung YEPP portable mp3 players; Philips' Wi-Fi Streamium MC i-250 provides wireless access to thousands of Internet music channels and recognizes CDs using an online version of Gracenote's database; and Yamaha's MusicCAST enables users to wirelessly access music from any room in the house using an embedded version of CDDB.

In addition to the millions of devices and applications that access CDDB via the Internet, the service is increasingly available in off-line devices, making music information accessible wherever music is played.
