Silicon Image Announces New HDMI Transmitters for Mobile Devices

Silicon Image today announced the release of a series of energy-efficient HDMI transmitters for mobile devices. The new generation of VastLane HDMI transmitters, the SiI9022 and the SiI9024, deliver dramatically reduced power consumption, improving reliability and battery life in mobile devices, according to the company. The SiI9022 transmitter is specifically designed to bring HDMI capability to ever-smaller mobile devices such as digital cameras, portable media players, camcorders and mobile phones. The SiI9024 transmitter is intended for use in mobile devices designed to carry premium content and incorporates an integrated High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) engine and keys that enable the secure distribution of content between HDMI enabled devices.

The SiI9022 and the SiI9024 are each offered with speeds of 85 MHz and 165 MHz. The SiI9022EBU and SiI9024EBU operate at 85 MHz and can support resolutions of up to 720p and 1080i. The SiI9022EBU6 and SiI9024EBU6 operate at 165 MHz and can support resolutions up to 1080p and UXGA (1600 Χ 1200 pixels). Consuming just 50 milliwatts (mW) for 720p/1080i and 80 mW for 1080p, the SiI9022 and the SiI9024 are the lowest power consuming HDMI transmitters in the market.

These new transmitters also help reduce system BOM costs with an integrated on-chip consumer electronics control (CEC) function, a universal remote control feature typically implemented with the added cost of an external microcontroller. This feature allows consumers to use a single remote control to run multiple CEC-enabled HDMI devices.

Pricing and Availability

The new transmitters will be available in December 2007, and are currently available for sampling, with volume pricing at less than $5 each. At 1K quantities, the prices for each transmitter are as follows:

- SiI9022EBU: $4.15
- SiI9022EBU6: $4.60
- SiI9024EBU: $4.35
- SiI9024EBU6: $4.84
