Sonopress extends reach of global network

Sonopress extends reach of global network

General Interest Nov 5,2002 0

Sonopress LLC, a global leader in media replication, today announced the expansion of the Sonopress Global Network to Sonopress manufacturing sites in Hong Kong, Singapore and Mexico. The Sonopress Global Network is a Virtual Private Network (VPN)-based transfer system that enables users to transfer data files, such as audio, software applications and artwork, to local or remote locations for processing and production. Hong Kong, Singapore and Mexico City join Sonopress facilities in Weaverville, North Carolina, Dublin, Ireland and Gutersloh, Germany as Sonopress Global Network locations. Additional plans to install Global Network capabilities at Sonopress facilities in Birmingham, UK, and Sao Paulo, Brazil are being finalized.

Traditionally, the content replication process begins with the physical transfer of a master to the replication facility. Physical transfer of such content is time-consuming and carries an inherent risk of potential damage to the master, resulting in improper replication. The Sonopress Global Network eliminates the need for shipment of physical media, thus reducing data transfer time from several days to as little as one hour. This can increase the bottom line for a media release by saving significant time and effort.

"The Sonopress Global Network is much more than just a convenience for our customers," noted Helmut Lindemann, Director of MIS for Sonopress US. "Developed in close dialogue with our customers, the Sonopress Global Network not only eliminates the time required for physical shipment, which in itself is a huge advantage for the customer, but it also enables the customer to track the whereabouts of its data, either via automated e-mail or by online dialogue, directly into the mastering and pre-press departments. This degree of speed and global visibility is a key advantage of using Sonopress as a media replicator."

The Sonopress Global Network is a worldwide network of Sonopress servers that can accept and transfer data at speeds of up to 1 GB/hour. The network carries a minimum 128-bit encryption to ensure secure transfer of files. Clients may choose to send data with an HTTPS Web-based interface, ideal for smaller-sized files, or an FTP-based transfer via VPN, which enables large-scale transfer using smaller amounts of network bandwidth. Utilizing a digital fingerprinting system known as MD5, the Sonopress Global Network scans all files for in-transit corruption or tampering that could affect the integrity or the quality of the end product in any way.
