Sony posted today a list of recommended discs for both DVD and Blu-Ray formats that meet the recognized quality and performance standards. Recommended Discs and Compatibility

The rewritable BWU-100A is designed for best performance with discs produced by major disc manufacturers. In most cases, there is no problem as long as you use discs conform to the industry standard. However, some discs on the market do not meet the recognized quality and performance standards. With BWU-100A, we recommend the disc manufacturers and discs below. Furthermore, it is recommended to upgrade your drive with the latest firmware available at user support web site. The latest firmware can be downloaded at Storage Support web site.

* The writing performance and reading ability of all discs cannot be guaranteed.

Write Speed

You can achieve the optimum performance possible with BWU-100A at the write speed specified on the disc (or a slower speed than the specified). The BWU-100A also enable the write speed setting that exceeds the specified speed at the disc with some of certified discs*. The write speed is set by your software or the drive automatically determines a speed that matches each discs.

Disc manufacturers and discs certified for operation with BWU-100A are (As of 2006/9/29):
