Sony to License Its LDAC Audio Technology
Sony will try to make its high-resolution audio technology more popular among makers of high-end audio devices by licensing the LDAC technology. Sony has not provided details about the licensing fees, but Nikkei reports that fees will be kept low - and this should be the case in order to attract the manufacturers of high-end audio devices
Sony in the past helped transform the audio market by providing CD and MiniDisc standards to other companies. But it is not sure whether the company will have a similar success with LDAC.
The market for high-resolution audio, which offers better sound quality than CDs, is still rather small and there is a shortage of compatible music content.
Sony's LDAC codec technology allows for wireless transmission of high-quality music without losing sound quality. It offers a significant advantage over conventional approaches for wireless transmissions, as it enables up to three times as much information to be transmitted via wireless Bluetooth
