Sony to replace DVD+RW media

Sony to replace DVD+RW media

General Interest Jul 9,2003 0

Sony Corp said it will replace its DVD+RW discs that were included in its DVD/CD rewriteable drive DRU-500AX and DVD/CD rewriteable drive DRX-500ULX free of charge worldwide. Sony said it will replace some 18,000 DPW47L1 discs as some of them may not be able to record information or have data read off them because the disks' memory layer may oxidize after a certain period of time. The specific 2.4x DVD re-writable discs (DVD+RW 2.4x discs) sold by Sony Corporation, was manufactured by Ricoh. Due to oxidation of the element used in the protective layer of the disc, some discoloration in the form of black spots may appear on the disc, rendering it unable to write or read. These defects on the discs may cause "Can’t write to disc." or "Can’t read data written to disc." errors, in the recording attempts.

Some of the discs were bundled with Sony DVD+RW Rewritable Drives DRU-500A, DRU-500AX , DRX-500UL and DRX-500ULX, and other discs were sold independently. These discs are the Sony DPW47L1 and the DPW47 DVD+RW series, with the following production lot numbers, easily identified in the inner part of the disc:

V3102045B10, V3102049B10, V3102071B10, V3200093B10, V3200102B10, V3200105B10, V3200132B10 V3200222B10, V3200225B10

Customers who have the affected discs should contact Sony Customer Centre. . Each affected disc will be exchanged with a new one, free of charge. A list of the Sony distributors is available here, while the Sony Service Centers list is available here.
