Sony announced that it would end the sales of all 3.5-inch floppy disks in Japan at the end of March in 2011. Sony has been developing floppy disks in Japan since 1983. The company was the first to release a 3.5-inch floppy disk in 1981.

Sony will stop production of and sales of the following series of Sony-branded floppy disks:
