SRS Labs Launches TruSurround HD On Micronas Platforms
Specifically designed for the midrange and high-end television market, TruSurround HD accepts any input source, up to a seven-channel (6.1), and renders surround sound from 2.03.1 speaker configurations.
SRS Labs today unveiled the new SRS TruSurround HD (TS HD) virtual surround sound audio technology. The first implementation is available on the latest generation of single-chip TV audio solutions from Micronas.
When televisions featuring SRS TruSurround HD receive multichannel or Lt/Rt content, TruSurround HD virtualizes the channels, creating "phantom" speakers that appear to extend all around the listener, providing a superior multichannel surround sound effect. When the audio source is mono or stereo, TruSurround HD creates an expansive three dimensional sound field, provides definition to high-frequencies and offers a center control feature to adjust the mix of center information.
TruSurround HD is SRS Labs next generation virtual surround sound technology which builds on the feature-set of TruSurround XT. Like TruSurround XT, SRS TruSurround HD utilizes proprietary algorithms to enhance signal clarity and improve the intelligibility of dialog, while psychoacoustic techniques maximize the perceived bass response. Unique to the design of TruSurround HD is its ability to compensate for a system that does not include tweeters for high frequency performance by including a definition processor to provide maximum high-frequency clarity. TruSurround HD also includes bass management for subwoofer and center speaker designs. The final result is immersive sound that surrounds the listener, bass that rumbles and crystal clear high frequency reproduction.
"TruSurround HD builds on its incredibly successful predecessor, TruSurround XT, to include a new level of quality audio," said Lenka Koloma, senior director, Strategic IC Partner & Sales, SRS Labs. "Combined with the success of the Micronas platforms, we are able to provide a product with expanded features and flexibility which offers maximum differentiation to television manufacturers worldwide."
The two new Consumer Audio System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions from Micronas that feature SRS TruSurround HD are MSP-M and MAP-M. MSP-M is designed for televisions receiving analog and digital broadcasts. MAP-M is optimized for televisions focusing on digital TV as well as for home audio applications such as integrated audio systems, A/V receivers and Home-Theater-in-a-box (HTiB). Both ICs are fully pin and software compatible and are the core audio device in HDTVs and home audios.
"The high performance of our newest consumer audio solutions combined with the high-quality audio provided from SRS TruSurround HD creates an incredibly satisfying entertainment experience," said Stefan Hepp, director of marketing Consumer Audio at Micronas. "The seamless integration of TS HD in our highly flexible SoC provides a unique cost effective and feature-rich solution to CE manufacturers."
