Sunplus targeting 10% share of DVD chipset market

According to DigiTimes "...Sunplus Technology is aiming to take a 10% share of the global DVD chipset market this year. It will be helped by its shipments of DVD chipsets together with servo controller chipsets from US-based Oak Technology, according to company chairman Jau-jie Huang. On February 5, the companies announced that they would form an optical storage joint venture..." and continues "...Sunplus had a 60% share of the global VCD chipset market last year with its MPEG-1 decoder chipsets reaching monthly shipments of two million units. Its global market share in DVD chipsets, however, was less than 1%. The company is now trying to expand DVD chipset shipments as the dropping price of DVD players puts rapidly increasing pressure on the market for VCD players..."
