Taiwan projector makers to introduce models based on the new TI .55 XGA DLP chip
Taiwan projector makers are expected to soon introduce models based on the recently introduced Texas Instruments (TI) .55 XGA (1024Χ768) resolution DLP chip, according to sources.
BenQ is expected to be the first Taiwan projector maker to introduce a DLP projector using the .55 XGA chip, sources said. Premier Image Technology will roll out similar models in the first half of this year, while Toshiba and Optoma will bring their products to market in the second half of this year, the sources said.
Currently, projectors using .7 XGA chips are the mainstream in the office-projector market. Although projectors based on the .55 XGA chip will be slimmer, they will have a lower brightness, according to the projector makers. However, projectors using the new chips can be offered at lower price points.
According to the US-based Pacific Media Associates (PMA), projectors with XGA resolution will account for 45% of the global projector market in 2005, up from 40% in 2004. Research by PMA also indicated that DLP technology closed 2004 with a 47% share of the worldwide market, up 14 points on year.
