TEAC presents new CD-RW drive with Mount Rainier at Cebit 2002 show
TEAC presents its new CD RW drive CD-W540E right on time for the CeBIT Trade Fair. The high-Speed CD writer with burning performance of 40x in write mode and 12x in rewrite mode, and a 48x read speed, sets new standards with the competitively priced but nonetheless high-performance CD-RW drives. This is due primarily to the numerous details that TEAC has equipped its new drive with.
High data transfer rates of 6.0 MB/s with simple writing, 1.8 MB/s with rewriting and 7.2 MB/2 with reading CD-Rs are all considered standard, as is a fully dimensioned buffer memory of 8 MB. Easy installation at the ATAPI/IDE interface, the proven plug-and-play facility as well as the tried and tested MTBF time of 100,000 hours leave the user wanting for nothing. Using the refined TEAC technology "Fine Focus Control and Intelligent Speed Control", the way is made clear for the best possible burning results.
Mount Rainier Industry Standard
TEAC supports the Mount Rainer industry standard with its new CD-RW. Mount Rainer is a collection of specifications that is designed to enable problem-free use of CD-RW media. Instead of supplementary programs, the support is anchored in the hardware and in the operating system. The core of the specification is the division of the media into two-kilobyte blocks, a management for faults in the drive and a background formatting of the media. The user need worry about nothing! Using traditional CD-RW media in a Mount Rainer environment is as easy as pre-formatting floppy disks.
Innovation from TEAC: Fine Focus Control
The required strength of the laser varies greatly with writing and reading processes. With the movement of the write head with conventional CD-R(W) drives, faults often occur when writing and reading. TEAC has made a breakthrough with the new "Fine Focus Control" technology, in that the laser always remains constant and never enters a "jitter mode". The laser remains precisely in the same position on the track, regardless of the speed. This key CD writing technology from TEAC enables the high recording quality with very high speeds.
Intelligent Speed Control
A further qualitative improvement is the "Intelligent Speed Control" technology, which sufficiently tests the status of the CD before the writing process using various parameters in order to determine the highest writing speed with the best possible quality. For example, the number of tracks, the disk balance, the strength of the laser, the type of disk, and any possible vibrations with higher rotation speeds are all tested.
Metall Chassis
It should be emphasized, that with the design of the CD W540E, TEAC has invested a good deal of effort into realizing outstanding burning results, and that means in both mechanical and electronic components. The chassis of the TEAC drive (in contrast that of much of the competition) is made of 1.2 mm solid metal. This reduces anti-buckling vibrations to a minimum - one of the mechanical prerequisites for optimal writing results.
Write Proof
The CD W540E kit is delivered with write proof technology. Write proof includes both protection, which prevents "Buffer underrun", and "Running OPC" (Optimum Power Control). Following an analysis of the surface of the blank CD, this function automatically regulates the writing speed, and consequently avoids faulty burning processes with writing speeds that are too high - a double protection against the interruption of the data stream when burning.
Zone-CLV
In order to achieve the high writing speed, the new TEAC drive works with Zone Constant Linear Velocity as recording technology. With Zone-CLV the CD is divided into three zones, internally and externally, in which the write speed varies. In more simple terms, the drive is able to automatically synchronize these three zones when burning and consequently can always achieve a linear speed.
Up to 40x Digital Audio Extraction (DAE)
With read-out of music data, the data is transported via IDE and not via the analog exit of the drive. For many drives, fault-free reading of music CDs (e.g. in order to copy the data on to the hard disk), still poses problems. But not with the TEAC CD-W540E. All data is read-out precisely and with a DAE rate of up to 40x.
The new TEAC CD-W540E - compatible with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, NT, ME and XP - is delivered in a kit with a CD-R and CD-RW blank, premastering software for Windows, all connections cables and a multi-language CD manual.
