Toyo and DaTARIUS optimize moulding technology

Toyo and DaTARIUS optimize moulding technology

Optical Storage Jul 5,2005 0

The Japan-based moulding machine manufacturer will be using the DaTARIUS 3-loop MF DisCo as standard mould temperature controller for its revolutionary DiscBOX injection moulding machine.

"This partnership with a leading player in the field of injection moulding further highlights the DaTARIUS commitment to help drive the industry forward," says DaTARIUS CEO and Chairman James Steynor. "It also emphasises our belief that, as test equipment providers, we also have a duty to our clients, and to the industry, to provide solutions that help to improve both process and yield for optical media manufacturers."

The DiscBOX from Toyo is a new concept of moulding machine. In addition to being all-electric, the vertical system design provides the smallest existing footprint for an injection moulding system. DiscBOX can be used to produce any optical media format, recordable or pre-recorded, from CD to BD and HD DVD.

"The MF DisCo 3-loop system is ideal for our innovative moulding machine," says Mr Koji Hirota, General Manager of Toyo's Optical Disc Sales Division. "The fact that it is so efficient at improving cycle times, while reducing costs such as energy consumption, makes it a perfect complement for our vertical, all-electric design. The fact that it has also been proven for the next generation formats is another huge advantage. We are delighted to be working with DaTARIUS to advance the technology of future optical media."

The MF DisCo 3-loop configuration, which accurately regulates mould temperature, is suitable for optimizing the manufacture of all existing optical media formats, including all DVD recordables; it is also proven for next generation formats such as Blu-ray and HD DVD. Offering exceptional control of key moulded disc parameters, along with reduced energy consumption and unique start up characteristics, the MF DisCo saves money in the production of all disc formats.

The agreement between Toyo and DaTARIUS follows intensive testing by Toyo of the MF DisCo unit, which is designed to fit into any line. "The results were all satisfactory," says Joan Lu, MD of DaTARIUS Asia-Pacific, whose Hong Kong Office co-ordinated the installation, "and our Optimize Product group were also able to customise the system to meet the specific requirements of Toyo."
