Vivastar Begins Shipping DVD-R Media

Optical Storage Sep 7,2001 0

VivastarR, a leading worldwide manufacturer of Super High Quality (SHQ) DVD and CD storage media products, announced today it has begun shipping its new premium-quality DVD-R media to U.S. retail outlets. Vivastar's 4.7 GB DVD media product, featuring exclusive in-house metalized dye and manufacturing techniques, uniquely addresses the fast-growing demand for high-speed, high-capacity digital storage among U.S. consumers.

Based in Zug, Switzerland, Vivastar has become a major manufacturer of digital media due to its proprietary, in-house materials and production methods. The company's patented metalized dye results in superior burn-in and playback; in addition, all products are mastered internally using original equipment and technology.

"Vivastar's new DVD-R disc media is the first of a whole new category of product for our company," said Adrian Garulay, Vice President of Vivastar. "Vivastar is aggressively addressing DVD as the new platform of choice for all kinds of general purpose, storage-intensive consumer uses, from movies and video/audio archival to data warehousing and graphics/photo storage. We believe the exceptional quality and value of Vivastar DVD-R products will help put us at the forefront of digital storage in the U.S., as it has in countries around the world."

Vivastar DVD-R media will be available in the United States at BrandsMart, TigerDirect, Datavision, RCS Computer Experience, and all Electronics Boutique locations nationwide. In Canada the company's DVD-R products are available to retailers through Azerty United, the country's largest one-stop wholesale source for computer and office supplies and equipment. Estimated street price is $11.00/unit (U.S.); all discs are individually packaged.

Vivastar's DVD-R media join the existing SKUs in the company's storage line, including CD-R (650MB, 74-min. and 700MB, 80 min., both 2x-16x compatible) and CD-RW (650MB, 74-min., 1x-10x compatible) varieties. For the high-end user, two CD-R Audio products (650MB, 74-min. and 700MB, 80-min., both 1x-8x compatible) are offered that are compatible with Philips International's professional-grade audio CD technology.

In less than four years, Vivastar has gained major distribution for its products in a number of regions around the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Scandinavia, South America, and Asia, due to its reputation for world-class quality, dependable supply, and competitive pricing. The company entered the North American market in February, 2001.
