YouTube Asks Members To Use Their Real Names
Youtube has start asking its members if they want to drop their username and start using their real one.
The online video service is trying to become more uniform with other Google services such as Google+, by having its users use their actual name.
Youtube users don't have to have to switch to their real name, as YouTube will ask them for a little explanation when thry try to tell it no. Users may click a button saying "I don't want to use my full name." Then, they have to tell the service a reason for not switching.
YouTube did not say whether or not it is possible for users to switch back or edit their username if they do decide to use their full name. The video service also did not say whether or not new users will be forced to use their full names or will be allowed to use pseudonyms if they'd like.
"This will give you more options for how your videos are seen and discovered on YouTube," Youtube says on its blog. "However, we realize that using your full name isn'?t for everyone. Maybe people know you by your YouTube username. Perhaps you don't want your name publicly associated with your channel. To continue using your YouTube username, just click 'I don?t want to use my full name' when you see the prompt."
