YouTube Launches Ad-free video, Music Plan

YouTube Launches Ad-free video, Music Plan

Enterprise & IT Oct 21,2015 0

YouTube is launching a subscription plan in the U.S. called Red that will combine ad-free videos across its service with on-demand unlimited streaming music for $10 a month. The plan comes as streaming services like Hulu, Pandora, Spotify and TuneIn offer ad-free as a paid option.

The service offers access to new videos launching next year, as well as the YouTube Music Key service for music videos. It also comes with features such as the ability to download videos to mobile devices and have music playing in the background while using other mobile apps.

Users' memberships extends across devices and anywhere they sign into YouTube, including the recently launched Gaming app and a new YouTube Music app coming soon.

YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier.

"Any song or artist you choose on YouTube Music will start them on a personal journey through one of the richest music catalogs; just sign in, tap a track you love, and see where your music takes you," Youtube said. And as a special bonus - YouTube Red works with Google Play Music, so subscribe to one and automatically get access to the other.

And starting early next year, YouTube Red will offer member-only access to new, original shows and movies from some of YouTube’s biggest creators.

Creators of 99 percent of the content watched on YouTube have agreed to make their videos available on YouTube Red.

Viewers in the U.S. can try YouTube Red for free with a one month trial on October 28.

Rival streaming sites such as Vessel and Vimeo are luring online stars to their paid offerings, which provide creators a larger cut of revenue than they typically receive from YouTube's ad-supported videos. Facebook also is taking steps to boost video viewership on its site.

YouTube will continue to offer its free, ad-supported service, which has more than 1 billion viewers around the world.
