Japan-based Buffalo has introduced a new line of solid state drives (SSDs) that use MRAM cache instead of standard SDRAM. Designed for the embedded market, a 4GB SSD prototype that used an 8MB MRAM cache was showcased last week at the Embedded Systems Expo in Japan.

Magnetoresistive random-access memory (MRAM) is a nonvolatile memory with fast access speed but most importantly, it retains its memory with the power turned off. MRAM is also said to resist high radiation and can operate in extreme temperature conditions.
