LG To Use Qualcomm's Quad-core Processors In New Smartphone

LG To Use Qualcomm's Quad-core Processors In New Smartphone

Smartphones Aug 23,2012 0

Qualcomm said Thursday that it will collaborate with LG Electronics to supply Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processors to be used in the Korean firm's latest smartphones. The upcoming LG smartphone features 4G LTE connectivity and uses the APQ8064 solution. It is going to come out next month in Korea and globally soon afterwards.

Qualcomm says the new S4 Pro chipset will deliver "all-day usage" and is targeted to take full advantage of upcoming multi-threaded user experiences like advanced gaming and virtual reality applications.

The APQ8064 platform only has application processor functions, which means a baseband chip is separately required.

The new smartphone (Optimus G/Optimus LTE 2 ?) will also use Qualcomm's Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and will run Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. LG's flagship smartphone is also expected to boast a 4.7 inch True HD IPS display, a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera and 2GB of RAM, according to specs that have leaked online prior to the phone's official announcement at upcoming consumer electronics show IFA in Berlin, which runs August 31- September 5.

At the same show, manufacturers expected to unveil new devices at IFA include Sony, which is expected to drop the Xperia SL, and Samsung, which will showcase its next-gen tablet/smartphone hybrid -- the Galaxy Note II.
