Samsung To Focus On Camera Smartphones

Samsung To Focus On Camera Smartphones

Smartphones Dec 13,2013 0

Samsung Electronics hs decided to integrate its Digital Imaging Business Division with the Wireless Business Division, creating synergies between smartphones and cameras. The world's largest smartphone maker announced on Wednesday that it would maintain its current three business divisions next year - Consumer Electronics, IT and Mobile - but it will also rearrange some units. The company's digital imaging business unit will be put under the IT and Mobile division, a move aimed at helping the company efficiently apply its digital camera technology to its smart devices. Samsung also expects expertise to flow in the opposite direction, allowing its engineers to create cameras with better wireless connectivity.

"We will transplant the brand, sales networks, software competency and manufacturing competitiveness of the Wireless Business Division into the Camera Business Division, and integrate the technical know-how of the two business divisions into competency for differentiating our smartphones," Samsung said.

Samsung has started the development of a 20-mega pixel smartphone camera module that will power its 2015 smartphones, according to earlier reports. While Samsung's rival LG Electronics as well as Nokia have chosen to invest in functions like the optical image stabilization (OIS) for their flagship smartphones, Samsung has decided to focus on delivering mobile devices with cameras packing more pixels.

Also, Samsung said it would create a center that caters to so-called big data-related business.
