Japan Display Showcases 8-inch 4k LCD, Next-gen Automotive Displays

Enterprise & IT Oct 29,2014 0

Japan Display has developed an 8-inch 4k super-high resolution LCD display and a next-generation automotive display and will exhibit them at Display Innovation 2014, which runs from Oct 29 to 31, 2014, in Yokohama City, Japan. JDI says that the new 8-inch 4k LCD display consumes low power, is lightweight and thin with a slim border. Its finger touch function has been upgraded to enable smooth input using a pen whose tip is only 1mm in diameter. These features have been achieved thanks to JDI’s original low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology and "IPS-NEO" that has widened the color reproduction range to 95% of NTSC. In addition, the applied "WhiteMagic" technology has been improved through the local dimming backlight. The backlight can be controlled more efficiently by dimming LEDs in tune with displayed images. WhiteMagic adds white (W) subpixels to RGB (red, green and blue) colors. And "Pixel Eyes" contributes to the high resolution capabilities of the display.

JDI has also on display the next-generation automotive display for cockpits that increases flexibility for both interior design and displayed content to assist drivers by integrating the instrument cluster and a head-up display.

The display is installed in front of the driver's seat. It is equipped with a curved rectangular display that shows various information useful for driving and a high-resolution head-up display (HUD) that projects navigation and warning information onto the windshield. The curved rectangular display uses the IPS-NEO and WhiteMagic technologies.

Other new developments including ultra-low power consumption reflective-type LCD modules and a 5.2-inch FHD flexible OLED display are also on display at JDI's booth during the show.
