Motorola Returns To The Chinese Market with Three New Phones

Smartphones Jan 26,2015 0

Motorola on Monday unveiled three smartphone models for its return to China, the most populous mobile phone market. Motorola had pulled out from the market in the Asias country in 2013 after its acquisition by Google. Lenovo Group bought Motorola last year as part of its effort to become a global competitor in wireless devices.

Motorola is trying to set itself apart by allowing buyers of its flagship Moto X to customize their phones. The 16GB version will start at 3,299 yuan ($540). It will have a 5.2-inch full HD display and other such as Moto Voice, Moto Assist, Moto Display and Moto Actions.

The Moto X Pro will have a more powerful processor, a 6-inch Quad HD display front-facing stereo speakers plus a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.. The third model, the Moto G, will start at 1,299 yuan ($212) for an 8GB model. With Moto G, Chinese users will get 4G LTE connectivity, dual-SIM capability, a 5-inch HD display, an all-day battery and stereo sound.

The company also unveiled an earpiece, the Moto Hint, to go on sale later. Moto Hint is a discreet wireless earbud. It gives users complete control of their phones and allows them to access everything they need by just using their voices.

But Motorola faces intense competition from Apple and Samsung as well as ambitious local brands that include Xiaomi, Huawei and Vivo.

Besides the $2.9 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility, Lenovo has also bought IBM's low-end server business for $2.1 billion.
